Closing date: April 1, 2012 - 12pm

Location: University of Victoria, Victoria, BC

Contact: Centre for Asia-Pacific Initiatives

The Centre for Asia-Pacific Initiatives (CAPI) at the University of Victoria invites nominations and applications for the Professorship in Asia-Pacific Relations. This is an appointment for permanent faculty members, starting preferably July 1, 2012.

UVic scholars with an established reputation with a focus on Asia Pacific research, an established publication record, teaching experience, and a network of personal and institutional contacts in their field are encouraged to apply.

Purpose

The person appointed will be expected to bring to CAPI a proactive Asia-Pacific outreach program with a proven capacity for attracting external funding support.

The CAPI Professorship provides 100% release time from two courses and administrative responsibilities. CAPI Professors are expected to develop and administer an activist CAPI program, involving research, teaching, advisory and/or conference initiatives, that attracts third-party funding and connects with other universities and research institutes in the Asia-Pacific region. If successful, the externally funded program is to be brought back to and managed through CAPI.

CAPI is the University's interdisciplinary research and activity unit established to conduct research, conference and advisory programs in the Asia-Pacific region. Please consult the CAPI website [www.capi.uvic.ca] for full details of CAPI's programs, publications, and management.

The CAPI Professorship complements CAPI's three other Professorships in Asia-Pacific Relations, namely, Jarislowsky East Asia (Japan) Chair (Dr. Mary Yoko Brannen - from July 2012), Legal Relations, and China (Professor Wu Guoguang).
